Tenor Arthur Espiritu Returns for a Spectacular Opera Evening
Opera fans in the Philippines are in for a treat as internationally celebrated Filipino tenor Arthur Espiritu returns to the stage for a performance at the Manila Pianos Showroom on November 16, 2024. Celebrated for his powerful renditions and interpretations, Espiritu will present a selection of roles from grand operas that have earned him high praise on stages worldwide.
A Morong, Rizal native, Espiritu began his journey to the world’s great opera stages after moving to the United States as a teenager. He holds an Artist Diploma from Oberlin College Conservatory and a master’s in music performance from the University of New Orleans.
Over his two-decade career, he has graced some of the most esteemed opera houses, including the illustrious Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. Among his many accolades are the George London Award, the Irene Dalis Competition, and recognition from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. His role as Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda with the Irish National Opera marked him as the first Filipino tenor to be featured in OperaVision’s broadcasts.
Espiritu’s concert will include excerpts from operatic masterpieces, such as Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, L’elisir d’amore, and Lucia di Lammermoor; Gounod’s Faust and Roméo et Juliette; and Verdi’s Don Carlo and Un ballo in maschera, among others.
This evening will also showcase the exceptional talents of sopranos Marielle Tuason and Nerissa de Juan, winners of the National Competition for Young Artists and graduates of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music. Both artists are current mentees of Espiritu.
Audiences can expect an extraordinary evening beautifully complemented by the accompaniment of pianist Gabriel Allan Ferros Paguirigan.
