MusicArtes Inc. successfully unveiled its much-anticipated Opera Intima twin bill, featuring Francis Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine and the contemporary Filipino monologue Boses, at The Mirror Studio Theater, under the masterful direction of the internationally acclaimed Director Anton Juan. The media premiere, held February 7, 2025, offered an intimate experience that left the audience in awe.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that MusicArtes had thoughtfully curated every aspect of the evening. Guests were welcomed with flowers, and a media kit that came along with the tickets, setting the tone for a refined event.
At 7:15 PM, the open house began, and glasses of wine—both alcoholic and non-alcoholic—were offered, adding a touch of sophistication to the atmosphere.
The evening commenced with La Voix Humaine, featuring soprano Kay Balajadia in a breathtaking performance. With the brilliant Gabriel James Frias at the piano, under the musical guidance of esteemed tenor Arthur Espiritu, the production captured the raw emotion of a woman’s final telephone conversation with her former lover. Balajadia’s delivery was commendable, navigating the complexities of love, loss, and self-destruction with her haunting portrayal. The simplicity of the set only heightened the intensity of the performance, drawing the audience into the character’s emotion.

Following this gripping opera, Boses took the stage with a strikingly different but equally compelling energy. Brigiding of Drag Race Philippines commanded attention with an electrifying entrance. While the beginning of Boses was grand, funny, and full of energy—delighting the audience with laughter—it soon shifted to an emotional depth that mirrored the intensity of La Voix Humaine, adding a poignant and relatable twist to the evening's themes. Brigiding’s dynamic performance made Boses an unforgettable counterpart to La Voix Humaine.

The experience did not end with the performances. After the curtain call, attendees had the rare opportunity to engage with the performers and producers, a highlight that made the evening even more special. Anton Juan himself took the time to share his interpretation of the works, adding valuable insight into the artistry behind the production.

Overall, the media premiere of La Voix Humaine and Boses was a resounding success, showcasing the brilliance of MusicArtes Inc. and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of opera and theater. This twin bill is a must-see for anyone who appreciates the power of storytelling through music and drama. Don’t miss the chance to witness this exceptional production, running from February 15 to March 1, 2025, at The Mirror Studio Theater in Makati City.
