Share
Filipino-Chinese pianist Jet Stephen Chong returns to the local concert stage with a much-anticipated solo recital on June 1, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Manila Pianos Showroom, Makati City.
Titled Nuances, the recital features a compelling program of emotionally nuanced and technically demanding works: Beethoven’s Sonata No. 27 in E minor, Op. 90, Brahms’s Fantasien, Op. 116, and Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. The repertoire highlights various facets of Chong’s interpretive range, from classical clarity to romantic introspection and 20th-century colorism.
Chong has garnered top prizes in both the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and international piano competitions. He made his orchestral debut at age 15 with the Manila Symphony Orchestra, and later performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, he has given solo recitals in the Philippines, Singapore, the USA, and most recently at the renowned Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago.
Outside of performing, Chong is an active advocate for music education. He has participated in benefit concerts, workshops, and music camps for young musicians. His academic background includes training at the Philippine High School for the Arts, Chiang Kai Shek College, and Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. His mentors include Mary Evans Villalon, Anthony Say, Albert Tiu, and Spencer Myer. Currently pursuing his master’s degree at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, he serves as an Associate Instructor in the Secondary Piano Program and a Teaching Artist with the Jacobs Virtual Academy.
Presented by the Cultural Arts Events Organizer, the recital is expected to attract music students, educators, and classical music enthusiasts alike.
